Services Intake All new patients at NeuroDevelopment are seen for an intake session. This typically involves a conversation about the many factors (e.g., present concerns, history, strengths and interests) that may point to the optimal course of action. At the conclusion of the session, the doctor will recommend whether an evaluation is needed or whether the client will be better served by a specific psychological or educational intervention. BACK TO TOP^ Evaluation Evaluations performed at NeuroDevelopment provide a comprehensive description of the client's learning, emotional and/or behavioral development. The doctor selects a battery of tests based upon the information discussed at the intake session. Empirically validated instruments (tests that have been extensively researched and shown to measure what they purport to measure) are always chosen when applicable to the diagnostic question. Testing is performed in a quiet one-to-one setting with ample opportunity for breaks between tasks. BACK TO TOP^ Consultation A consultation appointment is scheduled at the conclusion of the testing sessions. Evaluation results are discussed in clear language and a formal written report is provided. This report includes a summary of background information, test descriptions, test scores and a learning or mental health diagnosis if warranted. Most importantly, the report conludes with several specific recommendations. Evaluation reports from NeuroDevelopment are written in standard format so they are useful to educators and other healthcare providers. BACK TO TOP^ Advocacy Dr. Skalicky's experience as a Nationally Certified School Psychologist allows him to understand complex school problems and the best avenues to achieve resolution. Through participation in hundreds of Special Education meetings, parent conferences and disciplinary proceedings, he became familiar with the paperwork, procedures (and acronyms!) that can overwhelm even the most involved parent. Upon request, NeuroDevelopment will engage in a constructive dialogue with a child's teacher, counselor or administrator. BACK TO TOP^ Psychotherapy While NeuroDevelopment is best known for high quality diagnostic work, this is only one component of the services we provide. After all, the objective of the evaluation is to understand strengths and weaknesses in a way that points to the most promising solutions. Dr. Skalicky is experienced in a range of therapeutic techniques that address behavioral, emotional and learning difficulties. As is the case during evaluation, precedence is always given to interventions that are supported by research. In many cases the therapy process includes cognitive-behavioral techniques (a method of examining and altering patterns of thought and action) as well as collaboration with other members of the family. BACK TO TOP^ Learning Clinic NeuroDevelopment is in the process of establishing Northern Colorado 's premier one-to-one instructional center. Some students possess an adaptable learning style that enables them to learn and recall information consistently within large classroom settings. For many others, however, individualized learning strategies are needed before their full potential is realized. The NeuroDevelopment Learning Clinic operates on three key principles: 1) Awareness of each child's unique strengths and weaknesses (this is accomplished through communication between evaluator and instructor, 2) Emphasis on teaching strategies that the student can apply independently, and 3) Intensive and engaging sessions that allow for repetition of the new strategies.
